Grace Harris is a senior studying Technical Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. Harris has worked part-time throughout her college career at The Rocky Mountain Collegian as an Advertising Representative. “I went into college knowing I wanted to work closely with the school and I’m happy I found a job like this and I was able to work all four years,” Harris said. She believes working as a student has too many benefits to list. Any student worker can relate or understand Harris’ top five reasons for having a job while in college. 1. Developing experience and real-life knowledge
2. Motivation to succeed not only in classes, but also in your workplace
3. Networking
4. Making money to pay off debt or spend for leisure activities
5. To keep busy, having a job will teach discipline for the real world
As a senior, Harris is now also working as an intern for Nelligan Sports Marketing. “This internship is teaching me the sports side of public relations and event planning,” Harris explains, “and although I’ve taken many public relations classes over the years, I feel like the experience from this internship and my job at The Collegian will make me more marketable after college and keep me competitive as a young business person. Having a job in college will only set you up for success.”
